Pears, Pears, Pears... A great fruit!

A friend of mine just finished a 5 day cleanse and is craving solid foods but wanted something with fruits. I suggested the following recipe, which I have been indulging for over 2 years when pears are in season!

Unsalted butter for the baking dish
1/4 cup all purpose flour, plus a little for dusting the pan
1/2 cup dried cherries
1-2 large pears, peeled, halved lengthwise and cored
3/4 cup whole milk
3/4 cup heavy cream
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup sugar
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Butter a 9 1/2 inch pie pan (10 inches works, too)
Dust with a little flour and tap out excess

Put cherries in a bowl and cover with boiling water by 1 inch. Let stand until plump, around 10 minutes

Cut pears lengthwise into 1/8 inch thick slices. Fan them over the bottom of the prepared dish.

Blend milk, cream, eggs, vanilla, sugar, flour and salt in blender until smooth. Pour this batter over the pears.

Drain cherries and sprinkle over the batter. Bake until golden and set, around 25 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes.
